Government and cluster development

Government and cluster development - 2000 - Financial Times 4 December 2000, 5(2) .

Discusses the findings of research carried out by the DTI into business clusters. These will be detailed in a report, which is due to be published during the next few weeks. The research suggests that clusters - groups of industries associated with specific regions - can be used as a springboard for wealth creation, but cannot be created by government. Looks at the biotechnology cluster in Cambridgeshire, the motor racing cluster in Oxfordshire, and the chemical groups in Middlesbrough.
