New alliance set to boost construction standards

New alliance set to boost construction standards - 2000 - Financial Times 7 December 2000, 7(1) .

After a series of disappointing projects, such as the 'wobbly' Millennium bridge, companies and government departments responsible for commissioning the bulk of construction work in Britain have joined forces in an attempt to raise standards through sharing best practices. Founding members BAA, the Highways Agency, Railtrack and MacDonald's have launched the Confederation of Construction Clients. The new body's remit will include assessing whether schemes are finished to time and cost, the number of defects and whether they comply to safety standards.
