Strain gauge
Cleary, M
Strain gauge - 2000 - Surveyor 187(5612) 14 December 2000, 21-23(3) .
Discusses the assessment of whether road bridges are capable of bearing super-heavy loads, comparing the usual method, which can be expensive and repetitive, with an alternative devised by Hampshire County Council's bridges engineering group. Known as 'load equivalence method', it does not assess bridges to see if they can carry the load but assesses the loads themselves. The concept was developed in conjunction with work already under way on establishing a national heavy load grid as the new method would greatly assist the redrawing of the grid.
