According to the Ministry of Agriculture's annual census the labour force has dropped by 23,800 to 374,000, with more than 450 workers leaving farming in England each week. Meanwhile accountants Deloitte and Touche estimate that farming incomes have dropped 90% in five years. The sector's bank borrowings are reported to total £10bn.
