Minister hits at landfill tax relief 'scam'

The environment minister has told the environment select committee that the £100m landfill tax credit scheme, under which waste operators can get a 20% rebate on the £12 a tonne tax on rubbish dumped on tips if they make a donation to approved environmental groups, will be changed to direct more money toward recycling and that ministers are examining turning it into a public expenditure programme.
