The great car parking swindle
Danaher, T.
The great car parking swindle - 2000 - Property Week 65(47) 1 December 2000, 12-13(2) .
In January 2001, government will have adopted the draft version of PPG13, which proposes to set a new standard of one parking space per 35sq m (375sq ft), or, on average, one space for every two staff on schemes outside the M25. Draft regional planning guidance for the southeast has 1:100sq m (1,075sq ft). This has prompted fears that business parks could become overcrowded with illegally parked cars. An investigation by Property Week reveals the practices already in use to squeeze more cars in, even on sites where public transport access is good. Concludes that a cultural change is required towards car use and also greater enforcement of parking restrictions; at present that seems unlikely.
