Under plans drawn up to tackle voter apathy, members of the public may be given the chance to vote on their council tax levels. Describes one of the first experiments, which is shortly to be launched in Bristol. A referendum will be held during January and February 2001, giving residents a direct say on local taxes. If the Bristol public responds positively, the scheme is likely to be repeated across the country.
