The director of BCIS explains how this RICS service is able to assist in making the complicated process of cost planning easier by using different types of information as the design develops. Pre-contract cost management is seen as a QS function but control of costs should be achieved by the whole team, including the client and therefore should be seen as a management issue not just a technical role. The BCIS database has details of thousands of projects which can be used, updated and adapted for cost planning. They can also be searched and adapted by a range of criteria and be downloaded for further manipulation and presentation by the surveyor.
