Reports on the update of guidelines for surveyors acting as expert witnesses to take into account the Civil Procedure Rules. The RICS "Practice statement for surveyors acting as expert witnesses" raises awareness of surveyors' responsibilities, duties and standards needed as expert witnesses. Introduction of the CPR and new case law prompted the update of the Practice Statement, last revised in 1997. Concludes that while Practice Statements can improve procedures, they also need to be policed and members are encouraged to become more proactive in ensuring that the standards set are achieved.
