Tower turns corner on quality of space

Gurney, A

Tower turns corner on quality of space - 2000 - Planning (for the Natural and Built Environment) (1397) 1 December 2000, 12-13(2) .

Examines how a current planning study of the area around the Tower of London reveals opportunities for improving the public realm. Looks at the deterioration of the urban landscape and domination of road traffic but reveals that now there is a move towards a re-evaluation of the space; that spaces should be considered in the context of environmental quality, variety of uses and activities. The article then looks at the interested parties in the Pool of London Partnership; the Corporation of London, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Docklands Light Railway, Historic Royal Palaces, Taylor Woodrow and other owners and occupiers: it then examines the actual planning study, the various options and the potential impact on the area.
