Show some respect - 2000 - Construction News (6695) 7 December 2000, 12-13(2) .

In the "Respect for People" report, the "Rethinking Construction" programme reiterated the need for construction firms to improve their record on safety, training and working conditions. Examines how, without such measures, the industry will fail to attract and keep the talented workforce it needs. It examines the issues of health and safety as well as staff shortages within the industry; the fact that the construction industry is failing to attract and keep talented people from all areas such as ethnic minorities and women. Discusses the means by which the changes proposed by the report will be implemented, especially the Respect for People toolkit. Concludes that the industry has been given the means to change positively to meet new challenges and to include and keep those who can help: now it must meet the challenge of the three Rs: recruit, retain and respect for people.
