Reviving market town economies

Reviving market town economies - 2000 - Urban Environment Today (111) 14 December 2000, 11(1) .

Briefly analyses the Rural White Paper and the government approach to reviving market towns and villages as flourishing centres that support the countryside around them. The aim of the 'Regeneration of Market Towns' programme is to target the economies of England's poorest market towns - defined as service centres in rural areas with populations between 2,000 and 20,000 - and to provide better access to jobs, education, transport and financial and health services. The success of any initiative launched by the White Paper will lie in the effectiveness of local partnerships engineered by the RDAs towards the regeneration of market towns and rural economies. Briefly lists the main measures.
