Examines the new procedures which are set to accelerate the appeals process and which could set up an alternative way of obtaining planning decisions. These procedures came into force in August 2000. The improved performance by the Planning Inspectorate is already beating government targets and has implications for the decision as to when and whether to appeal in the first place. The article looks at the main changes and considers that now the planning inspectorate may be viewed as a legitimate and practical alternative jurisdiction for planning decisions. References.
