Extra cattle in Britain are being tested for BSE as part of an EU-wide testing programme in response to a reported increase of the disease in Europe. BSE is declining in Britain. MAFF has issued consultation papers prior to measures to bring Britain in line with new EU feed controls. These controls ban the use of processed animal protein feeds until June 2001.
