Tough safety targets call for strong action

Safety targets set by the Health and Safety Commission have been attacked by trade union leaders, and other industry players, as being inadequate and too soft. In response, the Construction Industry Advisory Committee has issued its own targets. These include a call for a two-thirds reduction in the number of deaths and major accidents on construction sites over the next eight years.
