A report by the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) calls for regeneration and regional economic planning to move from the DETR to the DTI, in a bid to streamline DETR activities. Other suggestions in the report include the transfer of the Sustainable Development Unit to the Cabinet Office, although the IPPR recommends leaving land use planning and transport to the DETR.
