Government announces next set of Farm-Scale Evaluations (FSEs) of GM crops will take place in spring 2001. The Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) which organises the trials has suggested that around 32 maize, 32 oilseed rape and 32 beet sites should be planted, and plans are underway for clear communication with participating and local farmers. A final list of trial sites will be announced during the week beginning 26 February and details will be published on the DETR website at www.detr.gov.uk.
