The EU will toughen its stance on GMO food with a new law. This will tighten regulations over the planting, risk assessment and and crop monitoring, with the phasing out of anti-biotic genes and periodical renewal of licenses. Biotechnology companies hope that these safeguards will calm consumer fears and allow new products to be licensed.
