The Council for the Protection of Rural England has issued a briefing document, "Local Reviews of Advertising Controls", which gives advice to local people on encouraging their local authorities to maintain or improve Areas of Special Control of Advertisements (ASCA). Half the English countryside is covered by ASCA designations, under which there is a presumption against permitting large or illuminated signs or hoardings, but these are currently under review.
