RICS announces plan to tackle construction deaths

RICS Vice President Chris Powell has unveiled the RICS three point action plan to reduce the number of serious and fatal accidents in the construction industry. New RICS health and safety guidance advice is to be published before mid-2001 whilst the current review of the Assessment of Professional Competence will address the need to highlight the importance of health and safety, already an explicit requirement in the training of chartered surveyors working in construction. The RICS will also work with the HSE and the construction industry to identify how and why the number of accidents and deaths has escalated.
