Farmers to get foot and mouth emergency payouts

The Prime Minister has announced that beef, sheep and diary farmers are to receive £168m as a result of the foot and mouth crises. Approximately 20% of the funds will come from the European Union with the rest being provided by the taxpayer. The payouts represent the maximum grant payable to farmers under the 'agri-money' scheme. Pig farmers are also expected to receive £20m in grant aid.
