The government Quality Mark scheme for builders, aimed at cutting out cowboys, is to be launched to the public on 22 May 2001. Officials hope that 275 firms will achieve Quality Market status in the pilot areas in Birmingham and Somerset before the launch date, although concerns have been expressed that, even if this number is achieved, it will be insufficient to satisfy the expected number of enquiries from the public.
