The 2000 planning appeal procedures

Davies, J.

The 2000 planning appeal procedures - 2001 - CSM (Chartered Surveyor Monthly) March 2001, 31(1) .

Provides an agent's perspective on the new planning appeal procedures introduced on 1 August 2000. These were intended to create a fairer, more efficient planning system. Notes that appeals are won by ensuring the inspector is provided with all the information needed to support the case. Also advises that if a statement is late, without good reason, it will be sent back. Recommends reading Circular 5/2000, which can be viewed at: www.planning-inspectorate.gov.uk. Also advises looking out for a new Planning Policy Standard on the handling of appeals under the new procedures. This will suggest good practice for town planners, and is being prepared by the Royal Town Planning Institute and Planning Inspectorate. On completion it will be available at: www.rtpi.org.uk.
