The value of property portfolios traded rose to £6.2bn in 2000, a three fold increase on the 1999 levels. Trading has been driven by more innovative financing structures and deals where vendors have retained equity in the properties and taken profit shares. 50% of all sales were from listed property companies as the sector was reorganised whilst the largest purchasers were finance-driven and able to use active management to improve returns.
