Antiques logbooks to be made compulsory

Antiques logbooks to be made compulsory - 2001 - Sunday Telegraph 18 March 2001, 11(1) .

The Home Office has announced plans to introduce logbooks for all antiques sold in Britain. Under the scheme, which aims to reduce the estimated £75m annual market in stolen antiques, each item would have its own logbook detailing its provenance, previous owners and recent history. A national database would then be updated every time the artwork was sold, whilst the name and address of anyone selling anything for more than £10 or buying anything for more than £100 would also be recorded.
