The average price per stocked acre fell 7% from £777 in 1999 to £723 in 2000 according to FPD Savills' latest forestry market report. Timber prices, however, appear stable, due to reduced harvesting in the UK as more woodland is acquired for recreational purposes and continued exemption from capital gains, income and inheritance tax.
