An investigation of the nature of the valuation service offered to business occupiers

An investigation of the nature of the valuation service offered to business occupiers - 2001 - Journal of Property Investment and Finance 19(2) 2001, 100-126(27) .

Provides details of the findings of a research project, conducted by the University of the West of England, which considered whether valuers and valuations have a role to play in providing business occupiers with strategic business advice. A postal questionnaire was sent to 250 businesses, 18 interviews conducted, and over 70 sets of company accounts examined. Key findings included: many companies view valuers as providers of a single valuation service; valuations do have a part to play in providing more strategic business advice; in order for this to happen, valuers must convince clients that they have broad business skills, can think strategically, and have an appreciation of their clients' wider business needs.
