Greenhouse gases could be stored in oceans or converted into rocks and help tackle global warming. Carbon sequestration would buy time for the environment while alternative sources of energy are developed. An NERC spokesman comments that American scientists are seeking ways to speed up a process that in nature takes 1000s of years and to do it on a large scale.
