Ireland update

Baldock, H.

Ireland update - 2001 - Building 265(11) 16 March 2001, 38-50(9) .

Looks at the effects of the construction boom, and the swift pace of development, in recent years in the Republic of Ireland. Considers a number of factors that are threatening to undermine this boom. These include skills shortages, traffic congestion, and a lack of regulation and strategic planning. The latter is resulting in haphazard development. The planning system is also under strain, with unprecedented numbers of planning applications being submitted and a shortage of planners. This means that development is delayed while planning decisions are made. Looks at the design behind the Temple Bar tower in Dublin.
