Discusses the Crichel Down Rules in the context of DETR research which shows that there is much confusion about their application even among government departments. The rules that state that land compulsorily purchased by government must generally be offered back to former owners when it comes to be disposed of are of particular relevance at present when all government departments property holdings are under review.
