Proposals and development starts for shopping centres are at the highest level for a decade, with more than 1.6m sq m of new retail space in malls over 40,000 sq m proposed or under construction, according to research by CB Hillier Parker. Growth is strongest in the West Midlands and Southwest, although there has been a decline in the development of outlet malls and factory outlets.
