Rivers and coastal engineering feature - 2001 - New Civil Engineer 12/19 April 2001, 32-43(8) .

Feature on rivers and coastal engineering following one of the wettest autumns on record with extensive flooding in much of England and Wales. Analysis of the Environment Agency's response to the problems discussing what more can be done. The agency argues that the situation was exceptional but suggests improvements including new planning policy for development on plains. Describes a new lock near Kings Lynn which will provide boaters with an easier ride in East Anglian non tidal waters. A new coastal strategy in Brighton and the possibility of new drilling rigs in coastal and inter tidal zones around the country due to a new series of walking platforms which can provide safe and accurate positioning in hard to reach areas.
