Borrowed time

Borrowed time - 2001 - Property Week 66(17) 27 April 2001, 30-31(2) .

Discusses the findings of a report "The UK Commercial Property Market 2000" compiled by De Montfort University and which is due to be published shortly. It shows that property lending in the UK stood at £64bn in September 2000, up 21% since 1999. This is indicative of a 'reckless' rise in lending from certain bodies wanting a larger slice of the market. Valuations are also problematic with many complaining they are too high, sometimes up to 20% with the emergence of lending against value rather than costs one of the contributory factors.
