Over-subscription to government's Pig Industry Restucturing (Outgoers) Scheme has led to two-thirds of applicants being rejected. MAFF will only be able to fund 432 applications, covering 95,000 sows, out of an original 1,237 bids from pig farmers. The bids had been assessed as value for money in terms of cost per sow place, and the average payment per sow will be £111.
