Restocking resolutions - Aberfoyle shows the way - 2001 - Forestry & British Timber 30(5) May 2001, 18-19(2) .

Re-stocking of England's forests is fraught with difficulties for forest managers, due to the many environmental constraints in place. Describes the advice given to forest managers and agents, and woodland owners, at a one-day seminar hosted by Forest Research, and held onsite at two high standing restocking areas managed by Aberfoyle forest district. Describes the latest techniques for the protection and health of restocked crops, which were highlighted during the course of the seminar. The Forestry Commission (Scotland), in liaison with Forest Research, will be running a series of seminars aimed at providing the most up-to-date technical advice and promoting best practice. Other topics to be covered include: cultivation (Highland conservancy); continuous cover forestry (Lothian and Borders and Perth); small-scale harvesting (Grampian); and deer management (Strathclyde).
