Some of Britain's big companies obtained high scores in the UK's major benchmarking exercise, the Index of Corporate Environmental Engagement. A total of 184 companies participated in the fifth annual index, carried out by the Business in the Environment organisation (BiE) The index is compiled from ratings in 5 main area of environmental impact - energy, transport, waste, water consumption and global warming emissions.
