The Law Society has sent a Contaminated Land Warning to 30,000 conveyancing solicitors. Firms must ensure they comply with the requirements of the new Environmental Protection Act 1990 Part IIA, which has recently come into force. Solicitors have an obligation to warn clients of the dangers of buying land that may have become contaminated, for instance by buried animal carcasses.
