New sand tax

New sand tax - 2001 - Financial Times 18 June 2001, 3(1) .

A tax on sand and gravel used in concrete and road construction is due to take effect in April 2002. The British Aggregates Association warns that although the tax is set at £1.60 a tonne, in practice it could work out at £4 a tonne. Smaller quarry operators who will be the hardest hit, are still fighting its implementation. See report at: http://www.british-aggregates.com.
