Compares three payment mechanisms for priced contracts, bills of quantities method related bills of quantities and activity schedules, assessing the advantages and disadvantages of each. Finds that experience to date suggests that for civil engineering works activity schedules are most appropriate but that for minor civil engineering works where there is only a risk of a small change in quantities and for building work where only minor changes are likely to take place bills of quantities are preferable.
