Housing market boom swamps lenders - 2001 - Guardian 30 June 2000, 2(1) .

Bank of England figures which show a £4.2bn jump in outstanding mortgage debt in May are evidence of rising activity in the housing market and rising prices. Some analyists expect house prices as measured by the Halifax index to jump from 7% to 10% by the autumn. Agents are already detecting signs of an overheating market.
