Government pilot to appoint neighbourhood managers

In early 2001 government launched a non-funded pathfinder pilot project programme to appoint neighbourhood managers. The latter are viewed as a means of improving the delivery of public services at a local level. Following a review by government's Neighbourhood Renewal Unit, a rule barring some of the most run-down housing estates in the UK from participating in this pilot has been partially lifted.
