Government's decision not to fund the cleaning and disinfecting of farms affected by FMD may drive many more farmers than expected out of business. Government has estimated the cost of FMD at £2.28bn and has taken measures to reduce this figure; including cutting compensation payments for culled animals. There is also a rumour of public inquiry into the outbreak.
