Government has begun consultation on Local Access Forums as part of its policy of improving public access to the countryside following the passing of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. The forums will provide advice on improving public access with a membership made of a cross section of interested parties such as landowners and managers and activity groups such as walkers and cyclists. Consultation paper available at http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-countryside/conindex.htm. Closing date 23 October 2001.
