Latest figures from the Major British Banking Group (MBBG) indicate that mortgage demand remains strong. In July 2001, gross mortgage lending by the MBBG totalled £10,979m, compared with £10,350m in June 2001. However, looking ahead, the BBA's chief executive warns the figures suggest mortgage demand may be peaking.
