Report on membership schemes offered by town centre management initiatives which are seeking to attract small businesses. This is part of the initiatives' attempts to attract the private sector into town centre management in the wake of government plans to set up Business Improvement Districts. Town centre management initiatives were set up in the 1980s to encourage the business community and private sector to work together in revitalising local retail and regeneration of traditional commercial centres.
