Examines the consequences of the huge rises in insurance premiums faced by firms as compensation claims and lawyers' fees increase. Heavier trades such as scaffolding and demolition will see the highest increases but all areas of the construction industry will be affected. This increase in insurance premiums may force many firms out of business and prevent new firms from starting up as they either cannot afford the increases or cannot obtain insurance until they have a 5-year good track record.
