Considers the challenge of maintaining the quality and efficiency of the RICS Adjudication service. Warns of two areas for potential criticism of adjudicators: liens and up front payments. Notes that the new RICS guidance notes for surveyors acting as adjudicators, due to be published in autumn 2001, will contain a note to the effect that the RICS considers insistence on a lien to be contrary to pgh 19(3) of the scheme.
