Electronic property conveyancing will soon be a reality. The National Land Information Service (NLIS) was set up to help promote online conveyancing, mainly to the residential market. NLIS is the statutory body that grants licenses for online access to land and property information from a variety of sources. Each NLIS licence holder will compete to attract the best portfolio of electronic data providers, ranging from map makers to local authorities. Searchflow.co.uk, a joint venture of the Property Service Agency, Geographic Information Systems and ESRI, is the third, and latest, internet service to win a licence from NLIS. Its service is aimed at solicitors acting on behalf of buyers, sellers and lenders. It does not charge a subscription, earning most of its income from transaction charges for providing data to solicitors. Describes how Searchflow works, and the potential savings it offers to residential, and commercial, property buyers.
