The report of the Rural Task Force chaired by Lord Haskins "Rural recovery after Foot and Mouth Disease" is published. Its key findings include the need for future policies for farming to take better account of the links between farming and the wider rural economy and a recognition that countryside tourism is a powerful economic force in many rural areas.
