Private developers shun BRE's EcoHomes scheme

Reports on the EcoHomes scheme set up by the Building Research Esblishment (BRE) to encourage better environmental standards in new housing. Since its launch in April 2000, only nine developers have been registered under EcoHomes, with most support coming from housing associations and builders of affordable housing. Concludes that the industry must improve its voluntary environmental performance or face new regulatory requirements. Also refers to a new set of environmental performance indicators set up to promote sustainable working practices in the construction industry.
